Triads was first born in 1988, when my dad and uncle opened the original store in Middlesbrough — and believe it or not, Middlesbrough was seriously popping off for fashion at the time. The name Triads came from house music culture, which was huge in the UK during the late ’80s (and still is). The brand colours, green, were chosen to represent peace and love — a message that has always sat at the heart of what Triads stands for.
From day one, Triads was about more than just clothing. It was about culture. It was about everyday pieces from some of the coolest labels out there — clothes you could wear in the shop by day and out listening to groovy music by night. That blend of style, energy and community is how Triads was born.
At the end of 2023, my dad and uncle retired and closed their chapter of the business. I couldn’t let the name go. Triads held too many memories and too much passion to disappear. So during my third year at university, while finishing my degree in Business with Fashion (graduating in 2024), I took out a personal loan and reopened under a new name — Triads Clothing — with just £2,000 to my name and a slightly different perspective on the industry.
Now based in Yarm, just 15 minutes from the original store, I’m proud to be keeping it rooted in Teesside while building something new. I run everything myself — from buying and merchandising to packing your online orders — and I’m currently two years into this journey at 24 years old.
The vision today is a refined blend of what Albert Road once was and the more commercial energy of Linthorpe Road — still wearable, still accessible, but more elevated and fashion-focused. We currently work with labels such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Carhartt WIP, Les Deux, Birkenstock, Edwin, Wax London, Service Works and Duke + Dexter — brands that align because they’re clean, well-made and reasonably priced for the quality they offer.
If you’re reading this, thank you for taking the time to visit the website. If you’re ever in the North East of England, please come and see me at the store. I put everything into this place because I truly believe in it.
I’ve grown up surrounded by this industry, watching my dad work hard for decades — and now it’s my turn.
