The latest Carhartt WIP drop has landed in Yarm and online, and the pieces we keep reaching for are the small ones. A shoulder bag that handles the weather. A tee with a bit of character stitched in. Nothing loud, just things that get used every day.
Carhartt WIP has always been at its best when it keeps things simple: honest materials, considered details, a fit that works. This season is no different. Here are the two pieces we'd start with, followed by the rest of what's landed.
If you've bought a bag from us before, chances are it was the Carhartt WIP Essentials Bag. It's one of our most consistent sellers. The Richmond is the one we'd point you to next: a sleeker, more pared-back take on the same everyday idea, and at £40 it comes in £5 under the Essentials.
The Richmond is built from heavyweight 345gsm nylon with a water-repellent finish, which matters more than it sounds once October arrives in the North East. At 19.5 × 14.5 × 4 cm it holds 1.1 litres: phone, keys, wallet, earphones, and not much else. That is the point.
A zipped main compartment keeps the essentials secure, a zipped front pocket handles the things you reach for most, and an internal mesh pocket stops cards and keys from going missing. The only branding is a minimal woven Square Label in off-white, which lifts the black without shouting about it. Worn crossbody or over the shoulder, it sits close and stays out of the way.

A midweight organic cotton tee in Carhartt WIP's loose fit, with a duck graphic embroidered on the chest. Embroidery over print gives it texture and a bit more longevity: it won't crack or fade the way a screen print can after a season of washing.
The duck isn't a random choice. Carhartt made its name on duck canvas, the dense, tightly woven cotton behind its work jackets and double knee trousers since Hamilton Carhartt started out in Detroit in 1889. The Animated Ducks graphic is a quiet nod to that heritage: the fabric that built the brand, turned into something with a sense of humour.
The fit is relaxed through the body without being oversized. Our model is 183 cm and wears a medium, so take your usual size for that easy, dropped-shoulder shape, or size down if you prefer it closer.
White, £45.
A white tee is the most useful thing you can own in October. Wear the Animated Ducks on its own for the mild days, then put it under an open Detroit Jacket once the temperature drops. The embroidery is just visible enough at the collar line.
On the bottom half, keep it in workwear territory: the Klondike Pant in a bleached blue or the Aaron Pant in a dark midnight wash, rolled once over a sturdy pair of trainers. Let the details do the talking.
The Richmond finishes it. Worn crossbody, it frees up your hands and your pockets, and the water-repellent nylon means you are not worrying about a sudden shower on the High Street.
The rest of the drop leans into colder weather, with a few lighter pieces for good measure.
Outerwear. The Detroit Jacket in Hamilton Brown (£184) is the one Carhartt WIP is known for: boxy, hard-wearing and better with age. The Active Jacket (£184) adds a hood for proper winter, and the Edmore Jacket in black and white (£129) is the lighter option.
Tees. Alongside the Animated Ducks, there's the Hatching Script T-Shirt, garment dyed in Wax (£50), the Work Pocket T-Shirt in Raven (£40) and the Small Heart T-Shirt in black (£40).
Trousers. The Klondike Pant in Blue Worn Bleach and the Aaron Pant in Midnight Wash, both £99.95.
